Renegade December Holiday 2020 Newsletter

Grower-Producers in Champagne are creating fantastic quality bubbles these days. Here's three new producers that really shine.
-

We begin with the 2006 Pascal Doquet Champagne Premier Cru Coeur de Terrior Le Mont Aime.
Pascal Doquet is a certified organic Champagne House that began in the early 1980s. The winery has some of the most prized vineyards in Champagne.
This bottle is 100% Chardonnay, bottled in April 2007 and disgorged May 2, 2017 having spent nearly 10 years on the lees. The Blanc de Blancs comes from a unique isolated hill at the very south end of the Cotes de Blancs where the cooler microclimate allows for a longer growing seasong, sometimes 2-3 weeks more than their other vineyards.
-
With the 2006 vintage, Pascal chose to ferment half in neutral barrel and half in enamel, which brings out a cool blueberry and smoky characteristic common to flinty, silex soils.
The wine is rich yet bone dry at 3.5g/L and extremely minerally.
The nose is elegant and rich with notes of almonds, dried fruits, citrus, vanilla and baked goods. This is a well structured wine with great personality and very long finish.
-
Next we have a bottle of N.V. Roger Pouillon Champagne Brut Reserve.
Over the last 17 years, Fabrice Pouillon has worked his six hectares of vineyard with a degree of care and attention that has created quite a demand for his wines.
Fabrice farms with organic and biodynamic practices. Today, cover crops, compost management, and working soils have yielded healthy, vibrant, and beautiful vineyards.
-
Fruit is naturally harvested by hand. The result is an electric, terroir driven Champagne with high-toned aromatics, fresh acidity, and incredible length.
This bottle of bubbles is composed of 70% Pinot Noir and 15% each of Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. 85% is fermented in tank, 15% in neutral barrel.
The elegant nose is deep, pure and chalky, the palate is refined yet intense and complex, especially in the long and beguiling finish. Excellent, EXCELLENT, Brut Champagne.
-
Our final Champagne is a bottle of J. Vignier Grand Cru 'Ora Alba' Blanc de Blancs.
Our third producer is also an organic grower with a family history dating back to 1530.
With their vines planted between 1950 and 2010, the Vignier vineyards are deeply rooted in the chalky slopes of the grand cru villages of Cramant, Oiry and Chouilly.
A beautiful Blanc de blancs (5g/dosage) fermented in tank then bottled with the lees for 72 months.
-
A stunning wine. This is Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs at it's finest. Mineral driven, elegant with layer upon layer of complexity, this is the pinnacle of quality.
-
To sum it up: Three Organic/Biodynamic producers creating tiny amounts of Champagne for an International audience who cannot drink them fast enough. Renegade is lucky enough to have received one entire case of each of these.
We've put the Grower-Producer 3-Pack on sale for the holidays.
