Renegade Wines 2020 Newsletter

It’s December and usually this time of year Renegade holds its Annual Champagne Event with delicious bottles of Champagne and food catered by Chef Lydia. This year everything is a wee bit different.
We can not entertain the idea of a Champagne tasting this December so we’ve put together a number
of Champagne Grab & Go packs so you can enjoy your own tastings in the comfort of your home.
-
We are very excited about the first pack as it has three of our go to bottles of bubbles.
These three grower-producers were discovered by Kermit Lynch way back when. Each is a family owned house that produces some of the most inviting Champagnes that we carry at a super-fair price.
-
Here we go:
-
Paul Bara Champagne Grand Cru Brut Reserve
-
The Montagne de Reims boasts some of the best Pinot Noir in the region, and Bouzy is its capital. The key to Bouzy’s inherent greatness lies in its deep, chalky subsoil which imparts intense expression of fruit and great mineral complexity in its grand cru wines. The village of Bouzy and Champagne Paul Bara are practically synonymous.
Champagne Paul Bara is the quintessential example of a grower producer, where everything is done with a personalized touch. When Paul retired, he passed the direction of the estate over to his eldest daughter, Chantale, who has kept their family traditions and their house style very much alive. The Baras make their wines by hand with low-yielding vines and good maturity ensured by prolonged bottle aging. Andrew Jefford, author of The New France, calls them, “…essential references for anyone who wants to enjoy and understand the ripe, dry richness of Bouzy…”
Mainly Pinot Noir (80%) with 20% Chardonnay to round out the blend. Aged 6 years on lees
with the current disgorgement of January 2018.
Fine and abundant bubbles form an attractive mousse. Ripe aromas of fleshy fruits with overtones of Mirabelle plums opens up into spices and honey, underlined by candied fruit aromas, bergamot and orange peel. Fruity and fresh with body and intensity of flavor. Notes of yellow peaches with a slight peppery hint. Tremendous.
-
J. Lassalle Champagne Premier Cru Brut Reserve Cachet d'Or
-

Jules Assailable established this family-owned Champagne house in 1942 in the village of Chigny-Les-Roses on the Montagne de Reims. A master of his craft, he established a signature style of elegant, tightly knit wines with a certain ampleur. When he passed away in 1982 his wife, Olga, and their daughter, Chantal Decelle-Lassalle, stepped in and took over the estate, upholding Jules’ high standards and progressively pushing the domaine to the next level. In 2006 Chantal’s daughter, Angéline Templier, joined the estate as winemaker. Their twenty-eight-year tradition of “une femme, un esprit, un style” (one woman, one spirit, one style) holds true today more than ever.
There's an open-knit, almost airy feel to this vibrant Champagne, which carries a concentrated range of juicy pear and black raspberry fruit, with hints of crystallized honey. Shows gingersnap biscuit and verbena flavors on the chalky texture, gaining momentum on the racy, zesty finish.
-
Veuve Fourny & Fils Champagne Premier Cru Grande Réserve Brut
-

Since 1856 Veuve Fourny produces classic grower Champagne, raising pedigreed fruit, adhering to high standards, and hand-crafting wines that showcase the chalky terroir of Vertus.
This Brut Grande Réserve 1er Cru is bright and energetic, but also a touch ethereal in feel, especially on the mid-palate. Almond, chamomile, dried flowers and lemon are all nicely delineated in the glass. The presence of Pinot is felt in the wine's fruit profile and overall feel. Hints of smoke, licorice, dried flowers and mint add intrigue throughout.
-
While you could purchase these wines separately at a price tag of $175,
Kermit Lynch generously offered us a reduced rate if we purchased these Champagnes in bulk.
Our three pack price is on sale for $150
-
But Renegade has an even better deal: a six-pack with great Holiday pricing if you buy 2 bottles of each wine: $260 (that’s $130 per 3-pack).
-
A great way to begin the holiday season!
-
Call or email 805.568.1961 to reserve yours and we'll have it ready ASAP for curbside pickup
or in store pick up (or even delivery if you like)
-

Happy Thanksgiving and as always,
