Domaine Jean-Claude Credoz Chardonnay Brut (France, Jura, Crémant du Jura)
$34

A beautifully layered bottle of clean, fresh, whimsical sparkling Chardonnay from the Jura region in France. Brilliant with Comte cheese, gravlax, deviled eggs, huevos rancheros.

2006 Pascal Doquet Champagne Premier Cru Le Mont Aimé (France, Champagne)
$94

Pascal Doquet, located in Vertus near Avize, owns an exquisite 8.66 hectare domaine-which includes parcels in some of the best grand and premier cru vineyards in the Côte de Blancs. He is one of the most well-respected winemakers in the region for a reason: his dedication to quality is absolutely relentless.
Previous vintages of this Champagne were fermented in tank to support the racy, linear style of the wine, but in this vintage, Pascal chose to ferment half in neutral barrel and half in enamel, which brings out a cool blueberry and smoky characteristic common to flinty, silex soils. The 4.5 grams of dosage is absolutely perfect. This is stunning Champagne.

2018 Domaine Roulot Bourgogne Blanc (France, Burgundy)
$86

This rich and round Bourgogne Blanc is produced at the hands of one of Meursault’s greatest names. Juicy notes of pear, minerals, brioche, green apple skin, and white flowers ooze from the wine’s concentrated yet precise palate. Roulot under the 3-digit price point? Sign us up.

2019 Domaine Morey-Coffinet Meursault (France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault)
$84
Son of the late Marc Morey (of Domaine Marc Morey), Michel Morey, and his wife, Fabienne (from the Pillot clan), began the Morey-Coffinet Domaine in the late 1970s with a dowry of vineyards bestowed on them by two families with extensive history in the region. This is a union of Burgundian royalty!
Their 2019 Meursault is fabulously balanced with a beautiful core of rich minerality. It's hard not to pop open a bottle now but will also age nicely for some time to come.

Everyone's favorite Carignan is finally back in stock (and we have lots!).
$15.50

2019 Danilo Thomain Enfer d'Arvier (Italy, Valle d'Aosta, Enfer d'Arvier)
$36
This wine is from one of the smallest D.O.s in Italy at around 5 hectare and Danilo owns a little over 1 hectare.
Produced entirely from the indigenous Petit Rouge grape, it’s a homemade wine in every sense of the word: these brutally steep terraces must be worked manually; grapes are hand-harvested, carried just down the road to Danilo’s house, and the wine is made right there—fermented spontaneously, and aged in non-temperature-stabilized steel tanks in his basement two stories below the earth’s surface. The just-arrived 2019 pours a deep, black red—a gorgeous, menacing sanguine color. The nose is exuberant, brimming with black cherries, sun-drenched stones, tiny mountain flowers, and a touch of the sauvage.
This is one of the wines we look most forward to each Spring.

-
Let's start with the labels. They are fascinating. As is the woman behind the wine, Aline Domingues.
In her early 30s she already has three Master's Degrees (Molecular Biology, Fermentation Science, and QHSE (Quality Health Safety Environment).
Born to Portuguese parents in Paris, immigrants from Uva, Portugal, a minuscule and impoverished ancient village only thirty kilometer from the border of Spain, they came to France in search of better economic prosperity and to escape the dictatorship, like so many Portuguese in the 1960s and ‘70s.
After school Aline became convinced that she could produce great wines in a natural way from her ancestral so she decided to move back to her roots in Portugal.
While the appellation Trás-os-Montes is known for heavy wines, wines from Menina d’uva couldn’t be much further from that style.
-
The White Wine Pictured Left:
-
2019 Menina d'Uva Trás-os-Montes Líquen (Portugal, Trás-os-Montes) $32
For a wine led by Malvasia, Aline’s white wine, Líquen, is aromatic and subtler than one would expect from a wine based on this grape. Malvasia always brings a plentiful supply of charm, but this one is in no way excessive in its expression, like many tend to be. Aside from the Malvasia, there is a mix of 30% indigenous grapes with varying percentages between Bastardo Branco, Formosa and Poilta.
Pear, apple and cherimoya, fresh acidity with a lengthy finish.
An extremely pleasant wine and its freshness a welcome surprise for a white from this region known for its weighty, less interesting, white wines.
-
The Red Wine On The Right:
-
2019 Menina d'Uva Trás-os-Montes Palomba (Portugal, Trás-os-Montes) $32
Elegant, Fruity, Light Body are our first impressions from this wine comprised of 90% Negreda along with other native varietals. A fresh and precise wine that has a profound sense of place and depth that is almost haunting.
-
Both wines mirror their maker and are filled with generosity, joy, calm, energy, and wit.
-
We were very lucky to actually receive these wines as her production is so small.
After our sales-rep dropped off the samples we tasted both wines within seconds and placed an order before the wine faded from our lips. Even so, we received only a handful of bottles today.
