Renegade Wines March 2020 Newsletter Vol 6

We have curbside pick-up and DELIVERY to your DOORSTEP.
Details Here!

Renegade is keeping their doors open for all your wine needs.
Regular hours are Tuesday - Friday: 11:00am - 6:00pm
Saturday: Noon until 6:00pm
-
We are also offering our Quick Pick Six.
Six bottles packed and ready for $75.
Six bottles (great bottles) of wine. From left to right: Our favorite wine for oysters from Muscadet, a Loire Chardonnay that rocks, Corsican Rose of course, Negroamaro from Puglia, a red blend from Rocim in Portugal (Pedro was at Renegade pouring about a year ago), and ungrafted old vines Monastrell from Spain. A great line-up to get you through your day.
-
We're keeping the shelves stocked. Here are a few new ones (and a couple brilliant restocks):

A trio of superb wines from The Ojai Vineyard.
The 2017 Pinot Noir from the Fe Ciega Vineyard ($48) is superb. Dark red/purplish berry fruit, lavender, spice, mint, iron and earthiness give the Fe Ciega a real sense of accomplishment.
The 2017 Syrah from Roll Ranch Vineyard ($42) is a standout. Dazzling, exotic, explosive.
and the 2018 Chardonnay from Bien Nacido Vineyard ($32) is a bit more tropical but nonetheless inviting from beginning to end.

2017 J.L. Chave Cotes du Rhone Mon Coeur
(France, Southern Rhone) $20.50 - reg 26
Back in stock (finally). This is perhaps our favorite and certainly one of the best wines from the appellation.
Roughly 50-50 Syrah and Grenache from 20-60 year old vines. This drinks WELL above it's price point.
2016 Chateau Le Puy Cuvee Emilien (France, Bordeaux) $55
A certified biodynamic estate in Bordeaux? This one is. Manual harvest, totally destemmed, indigenous yeast, minimal sulfer. You know the drill.
The result is silky purity.

2018 Giovanni Gurrieri Frappato
(Italy, Sicily, Vittoria DOC) $20
The wine is brilliant mid-red in color, with clear floral and berry/pomegranate fruit notes and some spice and tea-leaf on the nose and the palate. A steal at this price!
Perfect with the tomato soup mentioned below.

A trio of ROSES have arrived. Loire on the left ($15)
Provence in the middle ($15.50)
and the one pictured on the right is from Corsica ($15.50)
Perfect for sipping day and night!
We've carried these producers for years and they are always a knock out.

We got sucked into a New York Times article on the best canned tomatoes, so we decided to try a few.
We thought out of the three we sampled (2, 3, and 4), #4 pictured above was best. Which led us to
the recipe for the best Tomato Soup Ever!
And we're not kidding. It is simple to make and incredibly addiciting.
-
Pair this with the Frappato above.
-
And the last three new wines (until tomorrow of course):

2018 Filippo Grasso Carrico 68.8 (Italy, Sicily, Etna DOC ) $26.50
Another one of our favorites back in stock. Talk about volcanic minerality! White stone fruits and aromas of a freshly cut field of flowers. Tremendous.
2016 Tatomer Pinot Noir Duvarita (Santa Barbara County) $52
Yes, you've seen this on previous newsletters. But the 2016 is extra, extra special. Brilliant, energetic and precise. Linear and tense, with salivating energy and tons of persistence. Decant 92 minutes then watch out!
2017 Ramey Chardonnay (Sonoma Coast, Fort Ross - Seaview) $46
This one got one heck of a score (above 95, yes), but that's not the point. Ramey's Fort Ross - Seaview Chardonnay is a stellar achievment.
This Sonoma Coast Chardonnay shows great depth of flavor, length of finish, aromatic complexity, and a fine balance between richness and delicacy. WOW!
