Renegade Wines August 2020 Newsletter

We all know that when the weather gets hot Rose and White wines are super-popular but more and more wine drinkers are asking for a red that's chillable and super delicious. Here are five that we think shine.
-
We begin with two wines from Austria both from the Zweigelt grape. The first from Umanthum is the lighter of the two: fresh, lean, savory ($20).
-
The second, from Rosi Schuster, is a juicer version of Zweigelt (Rotburger = Zweigelt). Fuller, friendly, fun. Another great chillable red ($22).
-
We move to Beaujolais and to producer Raphael Chopin. One of our favorite cool reds with bright red berry fruit and a savory complexity ($20).
-
From Sicily is our favorite Frappato from COS packaged in a fun, squat bottle ($28). Super smooth, precise, bequiling.
-
Finally, the long-awaited return of everyone's favorite Cinsault from the South of France: L'Ampoule.
The 2019 vintage is better than ever. Light and spicy with great aromatics. Let this one open up a few minutes ($18.50).
-
We're asked how cold do these reds need to be. It's really up to you. We usually put a bottle in the fridge for about 20-30 minutes before opening. Or if the wine is already in the fridge, uncork and let it sit out on the counter for 20-30 minutes before enjoying.

We re-stocked on the Produttori del Barbaresco 9-Packs from 2015.
That's one bottle from every vineyard they work with. Only four sets available.
Details and pricing here.

2019 Clos Alivu Rose (France, Corsica) $22
It's back in stock!
You've probably drank a glass or two and already know what a wonderful Rose this one is.
If not, stop by and pick up a bottle. It's a very worthy wine.

2017 Domaine Anne Gros Bourgogne Cuvee Marine (France, Burgundy) $52
A fresh, exotic Chardonnay with notes of citrus, passion fruit, melon wrapped in soft minerality. Perfect with grilled fish, roasted chicken, brie.

2015 Petrussa Schioppettino di Prepotto
(Italy, Colli Orientali del Friuli) $42.50
Schioppettino is a red grape indigenous to north-east Italy. Almost extinct by the 1970s, it's undergone a revival thanks to the high quality of wine it produces. Its homeland is Prepotto, right on the Slovenian border where this excellent wine comes from. Peppery, elegant, and fruity, medium-bodied with smooth tannins and bright acidity, this is a graceful wine with lots of depth and concentration.
Highly Recommended.
