Renegade Wines July 2020 Newsletter

We've been enjoy many different wines these days but lately it's been about these six.
From a dry, volcanic minerally Mt Etna Bianco to a lush, dynamic Cote du Rhone.
-
From left to right:
-
We begin with the 2019 Terre Nere Etna. A blend of local varieties: Carricante (65%), and the rest Catarratto, Grecanico, Inzolia and Minnella. This wine is deviously drinkable and pairs well with seafood pasta, grilled scallops, or just a clean glass!
-
You are probably familiar with the next wine: 2018 La Staffa Verdicchio from Marche in Italy. A bright, lively wine that we cannot stop bringing home. We had this with butter noodles and homemade pesto and few evenings back. It was also great with grilled halibut and a mango salsa.
-
Have you notice we've been drinking a ton of Italian whites? There is such diversity that we never get tired of them. The third wine is from Puglia in the Italian South from the winery Cuturi. This 2018 is made from the indigenous Fiano grape. Clean, crisp, and refreshing with notes of meyer lemon, white grapefruit, white peach, and a savory salinity making this perfect to enjoy with your favorite seafood or roast chicken.
-
Our first red is a juicy, lush Caberent Franc that we cannot stop enjoying. It's addictive this wine.
We've had it with pork chops, grilled portobellos, liguini with fennel sausage, fried eggs and bacon even.
You'll love it! Oh...and it's from famed winemaker Thierry Germain in Saumur Champigny, Loire Valley.
-
Our second red is from Domaine de Colette, specifically form the Beaujolais Cru of Morgon. This wine is rich in black fruits. It is ripe and dense, with layers of spice, black cherries and balanced acidity. It was even better after decanting for a few hours. We enjoyed this with BBQ Pork Ribs from a recipe in The Slanted Door Cookbook. The rub for the ribs is awesome: shallots, lemongrass, thai chilies, fish sauce. Simple yet perfect.
(Note: Use this Red Boat fish sauce. It makes all the difference).
-
Our final wine is from Domaine Saint Prefert: Cotes du Rhone 'Beatus Ille'.
85% Grenache, 15% Cinsault. "Beatus Ille" is a quote from an ancient Latin poem by Horace that literally means, "happy is the man". It refers to the pleasure of appreciating your beautiful surroundings in the countryside and working under your own volition... an appreciation for what you have in its simplest form.
There's lots of red berries and ripe cherries in this bottle along with layers of spice, warm earth, and gentle acidity.
We are planning to have this wine with grilled lamb chops which are marinating at this very moment.
-
These six great wines retail for $155 but through the weekend
are available for $138 while in stock.
