Renegade Wines

Daylight Savings? I'll Drink to That!

We will dislike losing an hour this weekend but the trade off is vast. After work strolls on the beach at sunset, warm dinners on patios outside into the eight o'clock hour, and an excuse to toast with a few of your favorite bottles.
Renegade has a handful of new treasures we'd like to share with you.
Here's to the weekend!
2023 Albert Joly Bourgogne Côte d'Or Blanc (France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Côte d'Or)

Baby Puligny!

We're not kidding. This is baby Puligny without the price!

Sylvie Prevot-Joly took over the estate from her father Albert in 2007 and started estate bottling at that time. Working together with her brothe in-law Gilles, she still sells 80-85% of her fruit to negociants, so the  production under the Joly label is quite limited.

They produce pure, classic Puligny - crisp whites with
supple fruit and great energy and a purity of precision and minerality
that could only come from Puligny.

This wine is from a parcel of Chardonnay that is entirely within the commune of Puligny. Hence its name "baby Puligny" (vines are 60 years young). Truly this is an impressively wine.

2022 Marc Colin et Fils Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Combes Blanc (France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru)

An O.G. in Burgundy

2022 Marc Colin et Fils Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Combes Blanc
(France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune)
$80

Marc Colin created his domain in 1970 but it wasn't until the early 2000s that we stumbled across his wines. They were eye opening; pure energy. For the beginning Marc Colin was focused on site specific wines long before other vignerons thought to do the same thing. His son, a name you may know, Pierre-Yves, modernized the cellar in the 1990s adding precision to the wines and a clarity that the domain is now known for. The son left to found PCYM in the early 2000s.
Today the domain is in the capable hands of siblings Damien and Caroline. The wines are still top notch expression of Chardonnay; this one from the Les Combes vineyard really stood out for us.
Citrus and white peach, a pear/apple medley, vibrant energy with nice weight and texture. There's a subtle thread of minerality and a sneaky long finish. Outstanding!
2023 Podere Ruggeri Corsini Langhe Rosso Matot (Italy, Piedmont, Langhe)
2023 Podere Ruggeri Corsini Langhe Rosso Matot
(Italy, Piedmont, Langhe)
$18

You've heard and probably drank a GSM wine (Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre). Renegade is grinning ear to ear as we introduce you to this wonderful DBN blend from Piedmont
(Dolcetto, Barbera Nebbiolo).
A light to medium bodied juicy crowd pleaser that enjoys being enjoyed slightly chilled. There's juicy currant and black fruit, hints of pepper and earth and a savory finish that keeps one going back for additional sips. This is really something for the price.
2023 Mas d'Amile le Petitou (France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Terrasses du Larzac)
2023 Mas d'Amile le Petitou
(France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Terrasses du Larzac)
$24

Le Petitou is an absolutely ravishing, very surprising red from vineyards right up and against the Massif Centrale in the Northern Languedoc region.
Another red blend -this time a GSC- with the old vine Carignan playing a major part in the blend, adding a bit of wild southern French garrigue to a party started by fresh, fruity Grenache and spicy, peppery Syrah.

It’s a supremely delightful red you can pop and pour to your heart’s content in the backyard with just about anything: burgers, chicken, ribs, even grilled salmon. It would like a little chill too.
2020 Domaine Labranche-Laffont Madiran (France, Southwest France, Madiran)
2020 Domaine Labranche-Laffont Madiran
(France, Southwest France, Madiran)
$24

Christine Dupuy took over her family’s estate in 1992, lovingly producing serious yet playful wine from 50 year old Tannat vines in France’s Southwest with courage and ingenuity.
Imposing and powerful, but simultaneously silky & seductive, this dense red manages to both carry Madiran’s famously rugged torch and help usher in a new approachability and finesse.
This one's a classic match for Cassoulet (but anything from the grill would be welcomed too).

Shut The Front Door!
2023 La Closerie des Lys Pinot Noir (France, Languedoc Roussillon)
2023 La Closerie des Lys Pinot Noir
(France, Languedoc Roussillon
$16.50

How??? That was our first reaction upon sipping the wine then learning its price. A wine that drinks exactly as it should; a crowd pleaser with smooth texture, juicy ripe berry fruit (red + black) and subtle spice. It's textbook Pinot Noir (and for under $20 which is incredibly hard to find).
