Renegade Wines Year 35

It's Our 35th Year!

...and we can't believe it. Back in 1990 who would have thought that the Santa Barbara wine scene would explode; that the dozens of wineries back then would grow to many hundreds. It's almost unreal.
Renegade is grateful for everyones support over the years.
And so we begin year number thirty-five.
Read, relax, sip, enjoy!

To Kick the year off...

...why not a few New Year Specials? Wines you love at a very New Year's Price!

On To Barolo, the 2020 Editions

The critics are all aglow with the 2020 vintage in Barolo. For us these three really stand out.
2020 Cavallotto Barolo Bricco Boschis

2020 Cavallotto Barolo Bricco Boschis
 $120

From Jancis Robinson:
"Mid to deep ruby. Shy and a little brooding and minerally rather than fruity right now. Earthy raspberry slowly emerging from the glass. Juicy and velvety raspberry fruit that is still a little embryonic, but perfectly balanced with ripe, chewy tannins. Elegant and long and in need of a couple of years."
As for our tasting notes, we tasted the wine after the bottle had been open all day, so it was showing beautifully. Young, yes, but engaging, witty, on point, and perfectly balanced from start to finish.
2020 Germano Ettore Barolo Cerretta

2020 Germano Ettore Barolo Cerretta
 $85

Fantastic texture here and accessible without to much of a fuss. Bright and lengthy, with building tannins on the almost sensual finish.
We discovered the wines of Germano through a small Italian importer and have never looked back. We basically buy everything that is offered to us. That includes there jim-dandy Chardonnay.
2020 Comm. G.B. Burlotto Barolo

2020 Comm. G.B. Burlotto Barolo
 $95

Star power here, although a decade ago, unless you knew Barolo, the name Burlotto was only a whisper.

During his seventy-seven years as a winemaker (1850-1927), G.B. Burlotto’s accomplishments were rivaled only by those of Biondi-Santi and Vega Sicilia, as G.B. achieved superstardom in a world dominated by French wines. Today, Burlotto has re-emerged as one of Piemonte's great small producers, thanks to the brilliant and highly traditional winemaking of G.B.'s great-great-grandson, Fabio Alessandria.
The Renegade wine notes include a "don't miss" and "outstanding".
We love the elegance in this one.
