Renegade Wines

We've put together here, a small selection of our new arrivals. Trust us, there's dozens and dozens more. We'll share the other wines with you as we creep closer to the weekend, but for now, as always,
Read, Relax, Enjoy!
Laherte Frères Champagne Extra Brut Ultradition

Harmonize

Laherte Frères Champagne Extra Brut Ultradition
 $60
This is a terrific introduction to the Champagnes of Laherte. We've sampled this twice in a week. The first time to scope out the wine -lovely, bright, balanced, gracious- and the second time to share with friends at a dinner party. One guest remarked how "brilliant" the Champagne drank, while another mentioned the beautifully aromatics. We are over the moon with this one.

2020 Bibi Graetz Testamatta Toscana IGT (Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT)

Tariffs? What Tariffs?

2020 Bibi Graetz Testamatta
(Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT)
$68 reg $120
Everyone is talking about tariffs; the price of this, the price of that, and then...we receive an offer that, frankly, is quite insane. Not only is this one of our favorite Italian reds (100% Sangiovese); a wine we've carried since the 2009 vintage (yes, we still have 2009 magnums), but this stunning 2020 wine from Tuscany is nearly 1/2 off!
So here's to tarrifs!
The Vinous reviews reflect our own thoughts on the wine:
"This is finessed and pure in style, combining bright acidity and minerals with wild strawberry fruit, all carried across seamlessly silky textures. While structured, the 2020 leaves the palate completely refreshed as a web of fine-grained tannins frames pretty rose and sweet spice nuances. What a darling. I expect that bottle age will bring more flesh to the palate, but even without it, the 2020 Testamatta is gorgeous."

Di Majo Norante Molise

The Three Amigos from Molise

make a triumphant return. We have a crunchy, wild berry, violet, brisk energetic Sangiovese. A fresh and tangy Falanghina with a sleek and salty mineraly streak. Then finally a single vineyard blend (Montepulciano + Aglianico) that's fuller bodied with mellow tannins, gorgeous red and dark fruit, a tinge of sauvage and a whisper of dark cocoa.
$45 for the three
(but of course you can purchase the bottles separately).
2023 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Meursault 1er Cru Santenots (France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru)

Rare & Wonderful

2023 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Meursault 1er Cru Santenots
(France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune)
 $225
This is the first time we've received an allocation of d'Angerville's Meusault. They make very little (we received 5 bottles) so of course we have not had the pleasure of being personally introduced to the wine. However, our friend Jasper Morris (Inside Burgundy) has penned a playful review:
"Pale colour, the fruit has a waxy lemon note to it medium bodied, though with good intensity towards the back of the palate, indeed this does have impressive persistence. The fruit is generous enough, apple and persimmon, to cover the bones, with a light citrus wash to finish."
Vinous mentioned the wine as "seductive", while Jancis Robinson wrote that this was a, "pretty smart wine".
If a bottle is still on the shelves come New Year's Eve, we'll pop it for the New Year; chances are it will be long gone.
1994 Bodegas El Coto Rioja Coto de Imaz Reserva (Spain, La Rioja, Rioja)

Ages!

1994 Bodegas El Coto Rioja Coto de Imaz Reserva
(Spain, La Rioja, Rioja)
 $65
It's that time of year when we receive a lovely selection of older vintages from Rioja; our importer takes great care in their selection and providence. This 1994 just arrived along with
1985 Bodegas Muga Rioja Prado Enea Gran Reserva $320
1978 La Rioja Alta Rioja Club de Cosecheros Reserva $160
1970 Bodegas Riojanas Rioja Viña Albina $130
1998 Bodegas Riojanas Rioja Viña Albina Gran Reserva $92
to name a few. If interested in a full list please let us know and we'll share.

2019 Château Tour de Marbuzet (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe)

Obsession

2019 Château Tour de Marbuzet
(France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe)
 $36
What a cheery day it was when we tasted this gem. A brilliantly affordable Bordeaux that bucks all the press on the reports that Bordeaux sales have slumped; that the region is in turmoil. Perhaps a portion of it is. But when you can enjoy a fabulous Merlot (40%), Cabernet Sauvignon (40%) and Cabernet Franc (20%) blend from St. Estephe at what equates to a 'silly price', then we have to say: those other guys must be doing something wrong.
Quick side bar: we sold out of this wine again before this newsletter took flight. We will have a half dozen cases arriving by courier this Friday.
