Holiday Magnums!

We begin with two of our favorite magnums of Champagne, perfect for the holiday season.
Read, relax, sip, enjoy!
Louis Roederer Champagne Collection 242

Louis Roederer Champagne Collection 242 $135 - 1.5 Liter

Louis Roederer…this is one of the last great independent, family-run houses in Champagne. When Louis Roederer inherited the house in 1833 he brought with him a drive to produce the best Champagne from the best vineyards available, a very unique perspective back then.
This idea and drive for perfection continues today.

Collection 242 is dominated by Chardonnay
which was of exceptional quality in the 2017 vintage. The
perfectly ripe Chardonnay grapes lend the wine its aromas
of ripe, sweet fruit complemented by subtle toasty notes. The
palate is rich and ripe with a luxurious texture that coats
the palate, the signature of an outstanding Chardonnay.
The Pinot noir and Meunier grapes from the Vallée de la
Marne complete the wine’s broad, luscious, smooth and
juicy character. The finish is energetic and fresh.

There's nothing like sharing a magnum of Champagne amongst friends!

Side Note:
Cristal was not produced in 2017 so all that precious juice is in this bottle.

Le Mesnil Champagne Grand Cru

Le Mesnil Champagne Grand Cru
$110 - 1.5 Liter

The Le Mesnil Co-op is one of the best value Champagnes you'll find on the market. A blend of various Grand Cru plots in the Le Mesnil-sur-Oger subregion of Champagne. A non-vintage cuvee that is wonderfully balanced. Lemon, pear, and green apple are complemented by a pronounced minerality and a touch of hazelnut and toast from extended lees aging. The fine bubbles and bright acidity balance the wine’s richness, creating a harmonious and refreshing experience.

Also available in 'smaller' bottles:
$55 - 750ml

2023 La Raia Gavi Pleo (Italy, Piedmont, Gavi)

2023 La Raia Gavi Pleo
(Italy, Piedmont, Gavi)
 $22

An often overlooked grape is Cortese from the Gavi appellation in Piedmont. In the right hands it can produce a wine of astonishing character. La Raia is certified organic and practicing biodynamic farming in their vineyards.

There's lively acidity here balanced with elegant fruit and a keen minerality. There's subtle orchard fruit harmonized with yellow citrus, herbs, and a wily salinity. A wine perfect as a aperitif, paired with seafood or veal, or any number of milder cheeses.

2022 Georges Lignier et Fils Bourgogne Passetoutgrains (France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Passetoutgrains)
2022 Georges Lignier et Fils Bourgogne Passetoutgrains (France, Burgundy)
$30
This breezy, scrumptious Passetoutgrain blends three parcels in Morey-Saint-Denis, comprising two-thirds Gamay and one-third Pinot Noir which are vinified and aged separately in stainless steel and blended just prior to bottling. Gentle in tannins, bursting with red fruits, and shot through with lip-smacking acidity, this is an exceptional but classic version of the genre. Also an outstanding value.

One White, One Red:

2022 Domaine Didier Fornerol Bourgogne Blanc (France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc)

2022 Domaine Didier Fornerol Bourgogne Blanc
(France, Burgundy) $42

2022 Domaine Didier Fornerol Côte de Nuits Villages
(France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits) $65

Winemaker Didier Fornerol was the vineyard manager and cellar master at Domaine de L’Arlot from 1982 until 1998. In 1999, he returned to his family's domaine. Today, he has fine-tuned the winemaking at the domaine with crucial help from L'Arlot's legendary Jean-Pierre de Smet. Given how much we've loved many of the older L'Arlot wines, it's no surprise that Fornerol is creating world class wines under his own label.

The 2022 Domaine Fornerot Bourgogne Blanc is vibrant and fresh, with a complex aromatic profile. It offers a juicy mid-palate and a beautifully balanced, harmonious finish with a touch of salinity.

The 2022 Domaine Didier Fornerol Côte de Nuits Villages Rouge is gorgeous exhibiting poise and detail, showcasing a lovely texture with buoyant earthy minerality. The wine stands out for its radiant clarity, which is particularly noteworthy in the 2022 vintage. Please decant a weee bit before enjoying.
