Three
New Bottles of Bubbles We Love To Share
When
Spring is in the air we tend to gravitate towards
sparkling wines. It's a great way to begin an
evening, a nice way to relax at the end of the day,
and popping open a bottle with Sunday brunch
is..well...tradition!
Here
are three of our current favorites; Filipa Pato's 3B
Rosé from Portugal you may recognize as it's
been on the shelves before.
The
next two are new to us and master's of not only Jura
wines but of Jura Sparkling Wines. You are in for
quite the treat.
Filipa
Pato 3B Rosé (Portugal, Beiras, Bairrada) $24
First the technical jargon: 86% Baga, 14% Bical •
chalky clay soil • Primary fermentation in tank with
wild yeast • secondary fermentation in bottle with 9
months sur-lie aging • No dosage • Practicing
Biodynamic (Demeter)
And
the wine? Wildly fun and dynamic. Racy bubbles,
vibrant red fruit including an array of young, wild
strawberries, boysenberry, raspberry and spice.
There's even a hint of peaches, lavender, and
rose petal. Impressively well-made.
Domaine
Rolet Crémant du Jura Brut (France, Jura) $32
We
posted this on our last newsletter and it sold out
the very next day. It's back in stock and
for a reminder, here's what we said about the wine:
A
deliciously fun blend of 50% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot
Noir, Trousseau, Poulsard + 10% Savagnin. Clean,
fresh, bright, with tons of energy here. Aromas of
white flowers, subtle citrus, and delicate brioche
notes dance beneath a bead of fine bubbles that one
might easily mistake for France's finest. Taste
blind next to your favorite Champagne. You'll be
amazed.
Bénédicte
et Stéphane Tissot Crémant du Jura Extra Brut Rose
(France, Jura) $38.50
Another top Jura producer with an intriguing blend
of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Poulsard, Trousseau
though this sparkling is a very distinguished Rose.
This
is the fuller-bodied of our three sparklings, with
more depth and texture; a seamless richness paired
with greedy acidity and streams of fine bubbles.
Opulent comes to mind. Red berries, currants,
nectarine emerge along with this crazy,
near-hypnotizing spice (pink peppercorn?). This
could stand up to a nice prime rib or deeply grilled
portobellos with a rich garlic sauce.
One,
Two, Three, Montille
The
absolutely amazing Burgundies from the 2021 vintage
are arriving and low and behold, Domaine de
Montille was the first to arrive. Etienne's
Chardonnays are nothing less than perfection.
The
estate has embraced biodynamic and sustainable
practices for many years, emphasizing the importance
of respecting the environment and allowing the vines
to express their true potential. This commitment to
natural viticulture and minimal intervention in the
cellar helps produce wines that truly reflect the
distinctive terroir.
Today,
Domaine de Montille is known for producing wines
that showcase elegance, finesse, and purity. Through
meticulous vineyard management and a gentle
winemaking approach, Etienne strives to bring out
the unique characteristics of each vineyard site.
The resulting wines display a harmonious balance
between fruit, structure, and minerality, allowing
the terroir and personality of each vineyard
site to shine through.
2021
Domaine de Montille Chardonnay Bourgogne $44
Coming
from 2 plots in the town of Puligny-Montrachet this
Chardonnay is all about purity, authenticity and
elegance. Right away the mineral and spring
notes of jasmine flower and citrus fruits shine,
coupled with a zesty acidity and a long savory
finish.
A great introduction to the genius that is Montille.
2021
Domaine de Montille Puligny-Montrachet $125
Allen Meadow's has a great review for this wine we'd
like to share:
"Slightly riper aromas include those of citrus
confit, a range of floral elements and a hint of
crushed fennel. The rich and generously proportioned
middleweight flavors possess the natural class of
Puligny while displaying fine length on the
balanced, youthfully austere and sneaky long finish.
This always boxes above its weight thanks to the
very high proportion of 1er juice and the 2021 is no
exception." -Burghound (Outstanding)
2021 Domaine de Montille Meursault
Saint-Christophe $125
At first sip this wine is taut, fresh with charming
salinity, conveying an elegant purity with pinpoint
balance and a glacial finish.
While Allen Meadows (Burghound) comments:
"This is an excellent Meursault and worth your
interest.",
Neal Martin (Vinous) concurs:
"This is well worth looking out for."
Needless
to say the 2021 vintage was tiny so our inventory is
limited. Call / email us if interested in any of
these wines.
Also, we do have a
few bottles of Etienne's
2021
Corton-Charlemagne available ($325).
