"There is no vineyard, no terroir, without the land. To love it is simple, but not easy. The land is generous and alive. It is beautiful. It needs understanding and time. It takes your breath away with its colors and many wonders." -G.D. Vajra
-
The G.D. Vajra estate is found in Vergne, the highest village of Barolo in north-west Italy, where the vineyards sit at an altitude of up to 400 meters. The winery is committed to organic farming methods (the first to be certified in the area in 1971) and sustainable practices.
-
The estate is run by Aldo who, with the help of his wife Milena and their children, tend all 40 hectares of vines.
We've selected their three most striking wines and put them together in a 3-pack for your enjoyment.
-
2019 G.D. Vajra Dolcetto d'Alba (Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Dolcetto d'Alba)
An outstanding example of the Dolcetto grape; expressive and fascinating. The wine opens with aromas of wild berries, hints of white pepper and sweet spices and fresh thyme. The palate is bursting with blue fruits and fresh plums, almonds and tilled earth. Perfectly paired with spicy sausage pizza from a wood oven. Think Bettina!
-
2018 G.D. Vajra Barbera d'Alba (Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Barbera d'Alba)
This Barbera is a real pleasure. Vivid red and dark berry fruit with beautiful spice and aromatic herbs. It's a multi-dimension wine with elegant acidity and incredible balance.
-
2017 G.D. Vajra Barolo Albe (Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo)
This is our go-to Barolo vintage after vintage. It's one of the few Barolos that is enjoyable -add immensely- early on.
There's beauty in this one. Bright, affable, elegant; all the makings of a classic Barolo from this estate. Everything comes together so gracefully. Crushed flower, red berries, lavender meld with the radiance in the mid-palate. The finish is pure and pleasurable. A top-notch wine.

For the holiday weekend we are bundling these together and throwing in a big savings:
Your 3-Pack is priced at $85 until we've sold out.

Grab a pack or two and fire up the grill.

2020 Zarate Albarino Val do Salnes
(Spain, Galicia, Rias Baixas)
$26
Is this the Godfather of Albarinos? We think so.
It was in 1953 that Ernesto Zarate initiated the Albarino Festival in Salnes’ capital of Cambados. Yet, he withdrew his wine from the festival’s competition three years later having won first prize each year, vowing not to re-enter until another grower had matched his accomplishment. To this day, no one has. Now that's setting the bar!
Leader in Organic and Biodynamic viticulture in the region, this wine has out shined their previous 'great' vintages.
Grab a bottle from this benchmark producer for your weekend.

2019 Pojer e Sandri Nosiola
(Italy, Trentino-Alto Adige, Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT)
$22
If you've never sampled a world-class Nosiola (native grape in Alto Adige) then this is a must. We'll let Vinous take you on the journey:
-
"Zesty lemon peel, lime, stone dust, granny smith and a hint of nutty richness defines the bouquet. It’s energetic and spicy, tugging at the palate with zesty acids, minerals and notes of tart apple with building inner florals. Citrus-driven tension creates a sweet and sour effect throughout the lip-smacking finale, like grapefruit with a sprinkle of white sugar, backed by a hint of smoke. This is really very pretty and a benchmark expression of Nosiola." -Vinous

2018 Joh. Jos. Prum Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Kabinett
(Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer)
$38
A beautifully understated off-dry Riesling. Citrus, chamomile and stone fruit on the nose, then a delightful creamy mid-palate, and a savory, stony finish.
The tropical fruit is as seductive as the sea-spray that mingles with it.
Wonderful.

2015 Chateau La Tour de Mons
(France, Bordeaux, Medoc, Margaux)
$40
Hurray for this affordable, adorable Margaux. It has some age on it so the very forward fruit has softened and the oak has neatly integrated. It's impressive from start to finish and has years left in it. Of course we're pretty sure the bottles will be enjoyed over the weekend.
We still suggest allowing it to breath an hour or two.

2009 La Sirene de Giscours
(France, Bordeaux, Medoc, Margaux)
$275 - 3.0 Liter Bottle
Speaking of age this large format bottle is turning 12 years old. And it's perfect for a Grand Celebration this weekend or anytime this Summer.
We are very fond of this wine paired with Steak au Poivre, Fillet in Green Peppercorn Sauce, Grilled Portobellos...the options are endless.
