Liguria is a small coastal region renowned for its stunning landscape, running along Italy's Mediterranean coast between the French border and Tuscany.  Known as the Italian Riviera, this thin, beautiful strip of rugged land with its Mediterranean climate and poor, stony soils is dominated by hills with sheer drops that almost fall straight into the sea.  Although there are 100 varieties grown in this region, Liguria is generally known for its white wines made from Vermentino.

Cantine Lunae was built following the dream and passion of Paolo Bosoni, who inherited the family land in 1966.  The winery’s core belief is that the quality cultivated in the vineyards can be preserved in the cellars through careful and respectful work during all stages of production.  They favor quality over quantity and are guided by nature, aiming to express the properties and characteristics of the terroir with every wine.  Lunae is known for their white wines and is considered one of the best producers of Vermentino. In particular, their label Vermentino Riserva Etichetta Nera, or Black Label, stands out: a white wine with great structure and elegant aromas of wildflowers, aromatic herbs, spices, ripe fruit, and honey.

$20 at the door, $10 credit toward your purchase, and a selection of cheeses to accompany.  Please RSVP.

In honor of International Women’s Day in March we wanted to highlight two of our leading local ladies in the wine industry.
-
Up and coming, winemaker and owner, Gretchen Voelcker of local winery Luna Hart will be here to guide us through her wines.  Her passion for wine began while living in Europe and visiting the many wonderful wine regions and vignobles in France.  This passion was fueled by a love of nature and all things outdoors, thus bringing her to California where she’s had the fortune of working with gifted winemakers, mentors and role-models. Current releases include Sauvignon Blanc, Gruner Veltliner, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah.
-
Veteran in the wine industry in a variety of roles, Amy Christine will be our other guest of honor for the evening.  Amy is one of 16 women MWs (Master of Wine) in the entire United States, earning that prestigious title in 2013.  She works for importer Kermit Lynch on the sales side covering both Santa Barbara and Los Angeles counties.  She and her husband Peter also make wine in the valley under the umbrella company Black Sheep Finds, which includes The Joy Fantastic, Holus Bolus, Hocus Pocus, and Genuine Risk. Amy will pour a selection of her current releases.
